Sarah Silbiger, left, and Anna Moneymaker board Air Force One. “Serving as VP for two terms has given me the confidence to become a leader among my peers. The carefully crafted structure of leadership allows for mentorship between the board and new volunteers. Their trust in my ability has inspired me to recruit members who may have otherwise been intimidated by the responsibility. I take great pride in seeing how WPOW helps new graduates transition from students to the workforce–as it once did for me.”

Cherris May “I joined WPOW looking for a community to help me navigate a male dominated industry. It was important for me to get to know other women doing the same work, and connect to opportunities and resources to help me grow in my career. I was WPOW president, to further advocate for diverse storytellers and welcome women into a community that can help them navigate an industry that can be overwhelming. I understand how that feels. I received help along the way, and wanted to pay it forward.” Photo by Dee Dwyer

WPOW treasurer, Elizabeth Frantz, works at the White House. “WPOW helped me make a significant career & life decision during the pandemic. I needed a bigger market to remain in journalism, so I used the 2021 Seminar + Review to meet and seek advice from industry leaders. Those conversations, encouragement from WPOW members, & knowing I could lean on the WPOW community when I arrived, helped convince me to move to the DC area where I have since thrived.” Photo by Kenny Holston

Jacquelyn Martin, right, with other WPOW members covering The White House. "I joined WPOW just after it was formed. I jumped into it with both feet & have never looked back. WPOW and I have grown up together. I’ve held nearly every position and am now co-director. Volunteering has honed my leadership skills in innumerable ways. The best part of WPOW, however, are the friendships. We lift each other up in hard times and celebrate one another in good moments. Few people can understand what life is like as a photojournalist."

"As a college student, I knew I wanted to pursue a career covering politics. But I also knew I wanted to be a mother and have a family one day. When I met Jacquelyn Martin in 2020, it was the first time I realized it was possible to have both. Since then, I’ve loved getting to know the other women of WPOW who are able to understand and support me in the workplace in ways my male counterparts can’t."
